Excursions: Beijing, Zhaozhou Bridge,

be 2 days. More than one day

Type of Sports, Cultural Activities,
Lectures: During this time, the emphasis
will be on Festival Activities and
Cultural Events, but there will also be
the possibility of: Kung Fu, Chinese
Cuisine, Tea Lessons (tea is quite essential in the
Chinese culture), Mahjong; Chinese
Chess, Tai Chi, Traditional Chinese
Medicine, Chinese Painting, Calligraphy,
and lectures on the three Religions of
China. There are other possible
activities. |

Festivals: |
|
Festivals are an important part of
Chinese culture and tradition. They are
generally happy and colorful events that
reaffirm ancient beliefs and customs. |
|
Chinese New Year or Spring Festival |
|
China's most exuberant festival!
Decorations are put up and there is a
lively and noisy carnival, with parades,
red banners, lions, gongs, special
foods, dances, drummers, and dragons.
All of it climaxes in a brilliant display of
fireworks (originally intended to ward
off evil spirits).
Nearly all the festival elements and
rituals are geared towards bringing good
luck and prosperity. The festivities
last about two weeks. |

Lantern Festival |
|
Coinciding with a full moon, this festival
marks the end of the 15 day New Year
Period. It is also known as the Little New
Year. A great many lanterns bearing
auspicious characters or animal shapes are
everywhere. During the day, there are
performances such as a Dragon Lantern Dance,
a Lion Dance, a Land Boat Dance, a Yangge Dance, walking on stilts and beating drums.
At night there are many vivid colors;
fireworks form a beautiful show with the
magnificent lanterns as a backdrop. Most
families reserve some fireworks from the
Spring Festival and set them off in the
Lantern Festival. |
